On Silence

Today, for a moment, I felt low – or perhaps bored; generally disinterested. It occurred to me that I would enjoy a sandwich and a smoothie from the café, maybe watch YouTube or Netflix and eat in the living room. Video games would be fun too. All good things, but maybe this moment wasn’t for enjoyment.

Maybe it was an opportunity for silence. To sit alone at an empty table consuming nothing but a simple homemade meal, watching my thoughts and feeling what sensations came up.

Sometimes in these moments I feel sad or lonely. I lean into it, accepting and integrating the emotional information my body is communicating. Today however, I relaxed into the joy of a simple moment of life and saw the beauty in ‘same ‘ol’. I remembered the friends I saw earlier in the day and gratitude found me. My thoughts wandered into wishing that others could find the space of silence I was experiencing and embrace it for themselves.

And now, a little more grounded, a little more connected, I think I’ll go watch Youtube
